Our Family Property
Emery Farm was first established in 1660 by Joseph and Mary Smith, and now eleven generations later, is the oldest family farm in the United States. We are grateful to now get to share this special place with you. Our farm stays make it possible for you to stay on an operational farm, while supporting our family farm to live on.
A Community Gathering Space
Shortly before the eleventh generation was born on the Emery Farm in the early 80s, it was restored to a working farm, with pick your own berries, veggies and a farmstand complete with a petting barn. Today, the Emery Farm Market and Café is a gathering space for community, offering local produce, craft beer, apple cider donuts, sandwiches and matcha lattes.
What's happening at Emery Farm?
Well, that depends on the timing of your stay.
Spring is the season of awakening. Blueberry bushes and peach trees have been pruned and the planting schedule for the greenhouses has begun. Maple trees are tapped, and the farm stand is humming along.
Summer is the busiest season on the farm! The stand is busy, busy busy. We harvest tomatoes, strawberries, blueberries, eggplant, garlic, cukes, potatoes, honey, and so much more! Pick your own blueberries is always a favorite time on the farm, and that season is typically the end of July until the middle of August. Summer events feature performances by local musicians and the opportunity to take educational community classes.
Fall is another beautiful time on the farm! Think mums and pumpkins, and more pumpkins and gourds. Fall foliage, crisp mornings, apples, fresh apple cider donuts, hay wagon rides, corn mazes, and more.
Winter is the season of rest, as plants restore themselves. Maple sugar avoids the cold and goes underground into the roots of maple trees. Pruning continues, mulch is placed around the base of the blueberries and peach trees and planning for the next year is in full swing. Christmas trees ring the farm stand, and the smell alone spells a special time of the year. A time to slow down to the speed of gratitude.
Seasonal living is why we love living on the farm, and why it is such a joy to share this special place with travelers to the Seacoast.
To experience farm life more fully, we invite you to stay at the farm in one of the Emery Farm Stay sites on the property, or host your event in our event space. We offer short and long term stays in The Main House, The Brown House, The Carriage House and The Tiny House.
The best part of Farm Stays is that whichever home you choose for your stay, you are just a moment away from the Emery Farm Market and Café, or the land and activities that make the Seacoast such a special place.
We hope you make a Farm Stay at Emery Farm part of your New England experience.
